Prevent and British Values

The Department for Education have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all providers of education to promote fundamental British values.”
The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated with a statutory Prevent Duty placed on Providers of education from 1st July 2015.
British values are defined within the duty as including:
  •  Democracy
  •  The rule of law
  •  Individual liberty
  •  Mutual respect
  •  Tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs

  • With these values in mind, at All Dimension Ltd we aim to:
Help learners to become valuable and rounded members of society who treat others with respect
    and tolerance, regardless of background
Promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual
respect and tolerance for those of different beliefs and faiths
Celebrate difference and promote diversity across all our activities and throughout our supply
chain and the Primes we work with
Encourage an understanding of the difficulties other cultures face where such values are not

  • We are taking action to:
Embed different materials about democracy and how the law works into curriculum materials
Ensure that all our learners have a voice that is listened to and valued and demonstrate how
democracy works through promoting our Learner Voice programme of activities
Use opportunities such as general elections and debates to promote British values and help
learners to argue and defend different points of view
Actively consult with our learner representatives to gather learner views and feedback on key
policies that affect the learners under our care
Encourage learners to become responsible learners and to actively participate in their own
    learning and development
     Provide staff development training
To promote British values and ensure that out statutory duty under Prevent is embedded in our
supply chain and our providers' staff teams.
  • This sounds very complicated but in fact we already use many items which are associated with British values, such as the NHS; this is something which is both free at the point of need and only available in the British Isles. It is part of British Values that you have the right of access to NHS services, regardless of faith or age. We have many rights which you would not have available in other countries.
